“Growing up in New Mexico, I have a strong recollection of the Indians of northern New Mexico during the 1950s. Childhood memories were of how, during daily life, these struggling yet dignified people evoked a great sense of spirituality and pride. I admired and respected their ability to make the most of whatever nature handed them.”
Jan Luke Rader studied art at the University of New Mexico and the Colorado Institute of Art. She began her career as a technical illustrator and commercial artist. While working for her clients, Rader continued to nurture her passion for the fine arts. In addition to drawing and painting she took up sculpture, where she has chosen to concentrate her efforts on the Navajo and Pueblo Native Americans she observed from her childhood.
