Charles Capps was an accomplished printmaker and a charter member of the Prairie Print Makers. A native of Jacksonville, Illinois, Capps moved to Wichita, Kansas, after studying at the Academy of Fine Arts in Chicago and the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts. He created many images of Midwestern scenes and Southwestern subjects as well as commercial art illustrations. Travels brought him to New Mexico where he was struck by the adobe architecture of Taos and Santa Fe. Known for the exceptional quality of his works, Charles Capps created his own plates, then signed and numbered each print in pencil.
