Alfred Morang

(1901 - 1958)

Alfred Morang, a gifted painter, published writer, highly trained violinist, and art teacher, arrived in Santa Fe from the East Coast in 1938 after contracting tuberculosis. Once in Santa Fe, he regained his health and joined the art community with zeal – his life and work coming to epitomize the art spirit of Santa Fe. Morang believed that “art is a joy to be engaged in and enjoyed by everyone.” He approached each painting as a three-dimensional creation, using palette knives as well as brushes to give his works a sculptural quality. Morang’s unique style make his paintings instantly recognizable.
